The bathroom debate continues to circulate as the Department of Veterans Affairs considers an interesting line of funding.
There has been a slight movement in order to change specific regulations so that VA hospitals can provide gender reassignment surgery.
The surgery specifically alters a transgender individual’s sexual characteristics in order to properly match with the individual’s identity.
The VA document exploring this new avenue shares that these procedures,
“were not deemed to be medically necessary. However, increased understanding and surgical techniques in this area have improved significantly, and surgical procedures are now widely accepted in the medical community”.
