David Gilkey was a photographer and video editor for National Public Radio for almost 20 years. Gikey had been traveling with an Afghan army unit when their convoy came under fire. Due to this incident both Gilkey and an Afghan translator were killed.
Gikey is known for covering the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and providing a unique view on the people involved and caught in the middle.
When asked about his work Gikey was once quoted saying that,
“The things to do were amazing and the paces to see were epic. But the people, the poeple are what made it all worth the effort”.
